Constellation and Mythology
The Vulpecula Cloth is based on the constellation of the same name; initially it was a constellation depicting a fox with a goose in its mouth. Years later, the goose was removed, but the fox image remained.
Mythologically, Vulpecula is based on a special fox, the Cadmean or Teumessian Fox, which was destined to never be caught. However, one day the fox's scent was caught by Laelaps, a special dog who was always destined to catch whatever it chased. The dog went after the fox, causing an eternal paradox. To stop the cycle, Zeus put the two animals among the stars, the fox becoming Vulpecula and the dog becoming Canis Minor.
