Often depicted in the right hand of Athena is the goddess Nike, a minor deity who represents Victory, and a supplementary figure to Athena's role as a goddess of warfare. She was often shown to be the daughter of the naiad Styx, the nymph of the river Styx who had once saved Zeus's life; Nike's siblings serve as attendents of Zeus. Due to their close association, Nike is sometimes another epithet for Athena.
