The Eagle Cloth (Aquila Cloth) is one of the Silver Cloths and the cloth of the Saint Marin in Saint Seiya, Saint Seiya: Episode G, and Saint Seiya: Next Dimension. The cloth is possessed by an unidentified Saint in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, possibly Marin's predecessor.

Mythology[]

The Eagle Cloth is based on the constellation Aquila (Latin for Eagle). The constellation represents the myth of the Trojan prince Ganymede. Zeus saw the prince one day and fell in love with him; taking the form of an enormous eagle he swooped down and snatched up Ganymede, bringing him to Olympus. Zeus changed back, seduced Ganymede, and granted the prince immortality, in addition to appointing him cupbearer (water bearer) of the gods. To commemorate the event, Zeus placed the image of an eagle among the stars.

Previous War[]

The Cloth was seen briefly at a gathering of Saints in Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas, but has only rarely been seen since.

Modern Times[]

The cloth was likely kept in Sanctuary until a Saint worthy of wearing it was found: Marin. Like all Female Saints, she must wear a mask when around men. Marin first appeared in volume 1 of the manga, as the one who was training Seiya. After Seiya leaves Sanctuary, Marin is eventually sent, with several Silver Saints, to execute Seiya and his fellow Bronze Saints, but betrays her allies for Seiya. During this period, she manages to defeat Hound Asterion after being severely injured. During the fight with Sanctuary, she even makes it to the top of Star Hill, something difficult even for Gold Saints. She tells of the true Pope's death, and then helps Seiya through the poisoned roses by letting him wear her own mask. During the Hades Arc, she locates Seiya's sister, Seika, and defends her when Thanatos tries to kill her.

They Call It...Brotherly Love[]

During Next Dimension, Marin is revealed to still be in Sanctuary, as she attempts to protect Seiya from the Angel Touma. She offers to protect Seiya with Shaina so Hyoga can join Athena. It seems, through the memories of Touma, that Marin might be his sister, meaning he was taken from his family to The Realm of Heaven. Her cloth appears to have been repaired (likely self repaired) since the damage it took in the Hades Arc.

Attributes[]

The Eagle Cloth, while having all of the strength and endurance of a Silver Cloth, has no special traits that make it stand out as a cloth.

Techniques used by Eagle Saints[]

Marin uses three major techniques during her various fights.

  • Ryuusei Ken: An offensive technique used by Marin that is much like her student Seiya's "Pegasus Ryu Sei Ken". The technique involves striking at the foe with a high velocity, throwing over a hundred punches a second. It is likely that it can go much faster, akin to the Silver Saint's ability to fight between Mach 2 and Mach 5.
  • Eagle Toe Flash: An offensive technique used by Marin in the Original Series. The technique has Marin leap into the air then dive downwards in a strong kick. This technique was used to defeat Hound Asterion.
  • Empty Fist: A deceptive offensive technique used by Marin to fool the other Silver Saints into believing that she killed Seiya. The technique involves doing a strike that appears to be a mortal wound, but in fact, only stuns the opponent briefly, fooling those watching her.
